The EU staff mobilises on

17 October, the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty

eu can aid! aisbl in developing countries and Give Eur-Hope asbl in the EU, are acting on behalf of the EU staff to meet the challenges of poverty, with the support of the Central Staff Committee. The solidarity initiatives they are taking, and micro-projects they fund allow the poorest to develop income-generating activities, access to decent housing, schooling for their children, vocational training and participation in civic life.

In Bulgaria, in the District of Shumen, the Roma community represents 50% of the total of unemployed persons.

Through a training program that will resurrect, preserve and market a traditional Roma handicraft, the coppersmith trade, 20 young Roma will become economically self-sufficient and will be better integrated into community life.

€ 5,000 was requested to fund the salaries of the experienced coppersmiths and to purchase materials.

Eastern Uganda is characterized by the presence of fresh water from several rivers and water basins.

The local population lives in poverty, which especially affects the victims of HIV/AIDS, school dropouts and the victims of sexual abuse.

The creation of a stocked fish pond will help 70 direct beneficiaries to supplement their diet, to learn a trade, to buy fish at a competitive price and in two years' time the expectation is that they will generate a profit and be able to manage and grow the project through the training and experience they will have received.

The amount requested of ECA amounts to € 4,500 and includes funds for tools, the construction of the fish pond, the fish seed and feed, transportation and marketing expenses.

Le personnel des Institutions Européennes se mobilise à l’occasion du

17 octobre, Journée Internationale pour l’élimination de la pauvreté

eu can aid! aisbl dans les pays en voie de développement et Give Eur-Hope asbl dans l’UE, agissent au nom du personnel de l'UE pour relever le défi de la pauvreté, avec le soutien du Comité Central du Personnel. Les actions solidaires qu'elles mènent et les micro-projets qu’elles financent, permettent aux plus pauvres de développer des activités génératrices de revenus et d'accéder à un habitat décent, à la scolarisation de leurs enfants, à la formation professionnelle et à la participation à la vie citoyenne.

En Bulgarie, dans le district de Shumen, la communauté Rom représente 50% du taux global de chômage.

Le maintien de leur tradition artisanale dans la fabrication d’objets en cuivre, la création d’ateliers, la mise sur le marché permettront à 20 jeunes Roms de créer une activité génératrice de revenus et ainsi de mieux s’intégrer dans la vie sociale.

La demande adressée à GEH s’élève à 5.000 € et correspond aux frais nécessaires aux salaires des maîtres artisans et à l’acquisition du matériel.

L’Est de l'Ouganda est caractérisé par la présence de plusieurs fleuves et bassins d’eau.

La population locale vit dans une situation de pauvreté qui affecte surtout les victimes d’abus sexuels, les enfants en décrochage scolaire et les malades du SIDA.

La création d’un bassin de pisciculture donnera aux 70 bénéficiaires directs la possibilité de mieux se nourrir, d’apprendre un métier, d’acheter les poissons à un prix concurrentiel et, après la deuxième année d’exploitation, de profiter d’une augmentation de revenus qui leur serviront à poursuivre et à agrandir l’activité.

La demande adressée à ECA est de 4,500 € et comprend le matériel, la construction du bassin, l’acquisition et la nourriture des alevins, le transport et les frais de marketing.
